Two ladies came to share with us. They shared about the benefits of oils and about the opportunity to become a consultant within their company. Funny thing is, I was there kinda by default, but within the first five minutes, I became the most interested person there and ended up registering as a wholesale member so I could get my starter kit. I wasn't interested in the business end of things, but I was really, really keen to get my hands on some oils.
I remember the thing that grabbed me the most: one drop of essential oil is equivalent to 70 cups of herbal tea. So let's say you want lemon tea. You would have to drink 70 cups of lemon tea to get the same effect as one drop of pure lemon essential oil. Wow, wow, wow. And I thought essential oils were simply just something you use in aromatherapy to make the air smell nice (I think most people think this too!)
I had no idea they are therapeutic, can heal the body and are multi-functional.
I had no idea why I had never really heard about essential oils.
While drugs almost always cause adverse side effects, contain unnatural additives, and treat one issue temporarily, essential oils work on numerous levels all over the body, don't have side effects and can be taken or applied frequently. Ex. Tums contains magnesium, fake coloring and aluminum... when all you need is a magnesium tablet! But magnesium isn't marketable! Fake coloring and fun shapes are though!

I grew up on standard marketed medicines. Some of which have been helpful at moments of desperation, however I knew nothing of "God's natural medicine cabinet" to use in my day to day life. Tums, Motrin, cough syrup, throat spray, antibiotics, etc. That was the norm. Though I have never been a huge fan of pharmaceuticals, I didn't know we had any other choice but to take the products we grew up with. But when I found myself at the essential oil talk, I had already been getting my head into the natural health and alternative medicine stream for a couple years, so it was perfect timing. I was ready to hear about essential oils and how to incorporate them into our life.
So how do I use them? Here are a few examples...
My experience:
Indigestion/Stomachache/Nausea ... a few drops of doTERRA's "DigestZen" does the trick. It contains anise, caraway, coriander, fennel, ginger, peppermint and tarragon. Works every time for us!
Burns ... a drop of lavender oil immediately took away the sting of a burn recently. I was amazed!
Bugbites... a drop of melaleuca oil & lavender oil also take away the itch & swelling of our bug bites immediately! It seems to completely neutralize and remove all "bug juice!"
Alkalizing... each morning I fill my water bottle and drop in 3-5 drops of lemon oil. While lemon is acidic, once the body processes it, it's extremely alkalizing. It also helps detoxify the body and boost energy.
Cuts/Scrapes... we use melaleuca (tea tree) oil and lavender. They are great antibiotic, antiseptic oils.
Earache... basil oil is the recommended oil of earache/ear infection, among others. Why give your young child harmful antibiotics if an oil will do? It took my daughter's ache away almost immediately. Dilute and rub around ears. If child allows you, put oil on cotton ball and place in ear for awhile so vapor is released into ear. There have been many testimonies about this working efficiently. Worth considering! Warning: Never drop oils into the ear canal.
Eczema... Sparrow and myself have had small bouts of eczema from time to time. The last time Sparrow had this on her stomach I used coconut oil. Within three days it was noticeably smaller and faded. By the end of the week it was gone. I can't recall what oils I have used for it in the past.
Deodorant Alternative... I avoid popular deodorant/antiperspirants like the plague. Read more about WHY, here. I've been buying natural brands from natural health stores & dropping one drop of Whisper essential oil blend from doTERRA onto the deodorant stick before applying it to my underarms. It's been working amazingly. I am super amped on the result. Additionally doTERRA has created natural deodorant & I've found it to work great!

Toothache... clove oil can numb tooth pain and have a sedative affect. Use carefully because it's hot. You must dilute! This is great for teething babies & children, however use caution. Test on yourself first.
Moles... I saw that Oregano works to remove moles, warts and skin tags. So I went for it. The first day I put one drop of oregano oil on a small raised mole on my back. I did this the second day as well. The third day I went to put oil on it and it was gone. I was shocked.

Common cold... we use a number of oils for colds (read up on the link here for oils), but the number two oils we rely on is OnGuard, as it boosts immunity and fights bacteria, and Breathe.
Trouble Breathing... when sick, sometimes I find my chest feels pretty gaspy! I put melaleuca, peppermint and Breathe into a pot of very hot water and breathe in the steam, with a towel over my head. I immediately breathe more clearly! Breathe contains melaleuca and peppermint, so you could just use Breathe by itself. I just like the extra kick. doTERRA recently created Breathe drops as well.
Sore throat... I blend together 1/2 T organic coconut oil, 1/2 T honey and 3 drops lemon oil. We also use "Thieves Hard Lozenges" by Young Living Essential Oils.
Adrenal Fatigue... I started using Clove this week and started using Basil at night which was recommended to me through someone who really finds it helpful. And I will start using Rosemary with the Clove as soon as it arrives (I placed my doTERRA order recently).
Aches and Pains... We use DeepBlue. This is a great one--though expensive so we use it sparingly. My father-in-law has really painful plantar fasciitis. When he was visiting us recently I had him try some DeepBlue oil and he found it to take the pain away better than anything he'd tried previously. He now purchases it through me regularly! The great thing about deep blue is it helps repair and heal, not just relieve pain.
Sinus Infection... On numerous occasions the last several years myself or others around me have had sudden sinus pain that lead to infections if not treated quickly. What always works for me is this: take one q-tip (cotton bud for New Zealander's) and place the tip of one end onto the opening of lavender, melaleuca and rosemary bottles so that the swab is soaked with all three oils but not dripping. Swipe inside both nostrils on all sides, being careful not to hurt yourself by going too far back or being too abrupt or forceful. Be gentle. Once finished, breathe in and out, sniffing the oils upward. You may experience the urge to sneeze but try to prevent this. Also avoid blowing your nose. You want the oils to have some to be absorbed into your blood stream and navigate to all sinus cavities. Within minutes you should be feeling 100% better. Amazing!
Menstrual Cycle... Clary Calm is a dream. It's a blend of oils from doTERRA that I most recently discovered. It replaces your Motrin/Midol by quickly and naturally calming down the pain of menstrual cramps within 2-3 minutes. I could not believe it! It is also helpful with hormone balancing. What a game changer!

21 Things You Should Know About Essential Oils (I disagree with their statement that oils should not be taken internally. Most have been proven safe and healthy for consumption. The precaution one must take is knowing which ones are NOT safe, and knowing how to take it (capsule form/under tongue/with water, etc.).
Note: Fragrance oils are not the same as pure essential oils. Do not apply fragrance oils to your body or take internally. Fragrance oils are diluted with other chemicals and are not safe for therapeutic use. They are for aromatic use.
