My brief history: I've done several intense, candida-specific cleanses over the last few years but nothing seemed to bring the long-term healing I was searching for, and I always felt like something was missing. I did what many prescribe (even my doc): Avoid all starches, sugars and dairy. Take antifungals and probiotics. Slowly reintroduce foods. I did this routine three times. For months at a time, I ate mostly cooked & raw veggies, brown rice, quinoa, chicken, probiotic yogurt, eggs, nuts and seeds. While not bad, these items combined were not helping heal my gut. While I think the Candida Diet can heal some milder cases, my systemic candida was too severe (it gets worse the longer it's left untreated). I discovered recently that what I need is a good several months of strictly raw (uncooked) veg and fruit along with juicing. When I came across Chris Beat Cancer, it was a light bulb moment, and I began heavily researching raw food cleanses and the raw food diet, especially in regards to cancer patients. I was amazed to learn how simple and basic of an idea it is... yet we rarely hear about it. The body can heal itself, given the proper nutrients. My thought is that if it can heal cancer, it can heal my gut and get my candida back into balance. Considering all the research and trial & error we've experienced, at this point, it's the best thing I know to do, so we are plunging forward in a custom-tailored cleanse and diet.
Going Raw: The main idea is that God/mother-nature (whatever you believe) created natural foods from the land that perfectly nourish and sustain our bodies. I know for some it's a "duh" fact, yet I'm constantly running into people who eat primarily processed & cooked & microwaved junk (my old self included) and never even think to eat a huge amount of vegetables or they purposely avoid them (I don't understand this!). Before this journey for me started (in 2010) I ate whatever I wanted without a second glance. I liked vegetables but I didn't really keep track of how much I was getting. My diet was based on what was easy/convenient to make or grab. For many of us, our diets can be so acidic (white bread, sugars, fast food, sodas, processed snacks, etc.), and we are getting sicker and sicker as a society. We have become a culture so completely surrounded by mass produced and processed "foods" it isn't even funny. Then we then try to mask sicknesses and ailments with pharma drugs. Just doesn't sit right, does it? Seems so silly considering science has proven how extremely beneficial raw and pure fruit/veg/oils/nuts/seeds/spices are for our bodies. But we are so engrained to think food can't heal and only drugs can. I mean, how often do you hear that a strict raw food diet can actually reverse illnesses, cancers and aging? Thankfully the news is getting around, albeit slowly. Eating what God (not man) created is going to be the best stuff for you. It makes sense that our living bodies thrive on living foods. I don't know about you, but it's enlightening stuff and I am excited to make long-term changes in our lifestyle. It's time we brought some balance into our lives.
